More about the workshop:
Inner to Outer Clown
Within expansive play, investigation, exploration and fun in the land of the funny, work on Being Clown. One aspect of this workshop will focus on awareness & connection to the inner funny, to the heart beat that creates clown. The second aspect will focus on applying the inner funny to the clown’s outer world, as a solo and as a partner.
Define, Shape and expand your inner clown world through developing a vocabulary of non-verbal expressions. Color your expressive capacities with qualities of lightness, exuberance, spontaneity and poetry. Take a journey into the world of butoh-clown to completely connect your inner funny to your outer clown.
Empower your clown’s fun and funny through improvisational physical theater work, alone and with partners. We will work with both concentrated quiet and with exuberance to empower both subtlety and enthusiasm.
Training methods borrow from the worlds of Clown, Physical Theater, Japanese Butoh dance, Kyogen, and Feldenkreis movement. Vocal training with Tenshingoso and exercises from the Roy Hart Theater world emphasizing sound and tone (over language) to expand your humorous and emotional expression. The workshop aims to create authentic presence, creating a calm centered space for your clown’s humor and levity to be more present, available, inventive, responsive and funny.
